ENGLISH FIRST ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE (Tweede taal)

APPROACH

We teach mainly communicative skills, with the emphasis on speaking, reading, writing and listening in curriculum context and continuous assessment.

SYLLABUS

The main categories are oral, literature, language structures, visual literacy, comprehension, and creative writing.

SUBJECT ACTIVITIES

Public speaking, creative writing competitions.

ENGLISH HOME LANGUAGE (Eerste taal)

APPROACH

The Home Language level ensures a language proficiency that reflects the advanced interpersonal communication skills required in social situations and the cognitive academic skills essential for further studies at a university.

English Home Language also provides learners with a literary, aesthetic and imaginative ability that will provide them with the ability to recreate, imagine, and empower their understanding of the world they live in.

CURRICULUM

The main sub-divisions are literature, oral activities, comprehension, visual literacy, language, writing and speaking skills. These are integrated in projects and activities that encourage critical thinking. Assessment is done on a continuous basis.

SUBJECT ACTIVITIES

There is also opportunity to enter the English Olympiad, Hoxbridge Reading promotion and Quiz Olympiad, General Knowledge Olympiad, excursions to watch Shakespeare plays on stage, a variety of writing competitions such as the Klofie Arts Festival. Subject related activities include public speaking, debating and orators’ competitions.
